The ILO WEDGE conducted FAMOS training to the heads of departments and agencies of the Ministry from 16-18 April 2010 in Adama. The training was attended by a total of 29 participants (5 female and 24 male) drawn from the head office and agencies such as FeMSEDA, Textile and Garment Development Institute, Leather and Leather Products Technology Institute and Basic Metals Development Institute.
The objective of the FAMOS training was to introduce the FAMOS check tools and methods to the heads of departments and agencies of the Ministry of Trade and Industry so that they could analyze the gaps in addressing FAMOS and take actions to integrate FAMOS in their respective sector strategies and programmes.
Participants of the training were able to capture the FAMOS Check concept, its rationale, and the process of carrying out the Check and the various tools and methods used. In addition to preparing short term action plans that each of the departments and/or agencies would like to implement immediately after getting back to their respective areas, they have also agreed to integrate FAMOS in the preparation of their respective strategic plans which they are due to prepare as per the recently finalized Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) of the Ministry.
In their final evaluation, the participants of the workshop indicated that the content and applicability of the FAMOS Check are very important and highly relevant to MOTI and its affiliate agencies.
